1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free program that encourages families to read with their children from birth until they start kindergarten. The idea is simple: read 1,000 books with your child before school begins! Any type of book counts—board books, picture books, or favorite stories you read over and over. Every single read helps your child grow and develop.
It’s never too early to start reading to your children—reading from a very young age supports early language skills, literacy development, and a lifelong love of learning.
Getting started is easy! Each book you read (yes, even repeats!) brings your child one step closer to building strong reading habits and a love of books.
We recommend using Beanstack, our online reading tracker, to keep track of your progress.
Here’s how to start in three simple steps:
If you prefer, printable reading logs are available for download. You can print them at home or pick up a copy at your local library branch. These logs allow you to track your child’s reading progress offline. Link to printable reading logs: https://georgialibraries.org/1000books/#readinglog
